First Steps!

Sophia turned 10 months old two days ago and on her birthday she took her first steps! I was sitting on the floor with her and she was doing her usual of cruising the furniture. Lately she has been standing on her own lately without holding onto anything. She was standing for about 15 seconds and I held out my arms for her to come to me. She took three steps into my arms without any support! Of course I couldn't get her to do it again for an audience, but Justin verified the next day that she was doing a bit of walking for him as well. We got out the "walker" to push to walk around and she's been going crazy with it! I think she will be walking more than crawling very soon!

We are getting ready for Halloween! Chasen has brought home multiple pumpkins from various festivities so we decided to make one into a Pirate Pumpkin! Using Potato Head pieces, Chasen cut out the holes for the parts and helped scoop out the insides. We then baked the pumpkin seeds for a nice snack. Of course, it wasn't necessary to scoop out the seeds but Chasen wanted to show us the "beans" inside the pumpkin that he had learned about in preschool that week! He's learning more every day!

Fall Festival Continued!

Saturday was Barksdale's Fall Festival. We invited some of our friends to join us and the kids had a great time. Pictured is Chasen enjoying his self-decorated fall cookie! The fact that there are only 2 pictures of the fall festival prove that men aren't multi-taskers. Justin was in charge of taking pictures. He was so busy talking with our friends and watching the baby carriage that he didn't take any pictures other than the first activity that Chasen did! Lesson learned, I need to be in charge of the pictures from now on!

A post for my mom...

My mother is is Q-tip Land this week visiting her sister. She always misses her grandchildren bunches and bunches so I'm posting these cute pics to ease the withdrawal! It was such a nice day yesterday that we walked Chasen home again from school and played out in the backyard. Sophia liked to crawl around in the grass but always kept heading for the dirtiest spot in the yard! She is definitely related to her brother!

Hello...is there anybody out there?

A few blogs ago I asked if anyone could spot what was different about one of the kids. Not sure if anyone caught onto that, but I was referring to the fact that Sophia had gotten her first tooth! The last few weeks have been very restless! About two weeks ago Chasen caught some little virus and Sophia got it too. They both had a fever and weren't feeling well. Sophia got through that but then started waking up every 2 hours during the night for a few nights. After the second night, I looked in her mouth and found the source of the problem- a new tooth! I think all this occured the day after I posted that she should be getting her teeth soon! Mommy's intuition?

This week I've been off of work for fall break. My break is different than Chasen's break since I work in a different county than where we live. It's been very nice so far. I visited Chasen's school one morning and I've gotten a lot done around the house. Justin and I walked up to Chasen's school yesterday to pick him up instead of driving-we are so "green"!!! Saturday we are going to the school's fall festival which I hope Chasen will enjoy. This one's NOT free, but the proceeds go to the PTO so I know it's a good cause! Look for pictures later on this weekend!

The best fall festival is a FREE fall festival!

Kim's company put on an awesome fall festival this weekend. They had great food and lots of fun stuff for the kids-all for free! Chasen had his face painted, his picture drawn, he painted a pumpkin plus much much more-all for FREE! At any other fall festival it would have cost us around $50 to do the things we did! Thank you Auntie Kim! I put more pictures on our Shutterfly site so be sure to check those out too!

Do I look different to you?

Something is different about one of these kids, can you figure it out?

Oh no, there goes Tokyo!

Go Go Godzilla!

Sophia and Chasen are both Leggo Godzilla's in their own right. Chasen builds Leggo towers and knocks them down with ape-like force and Sophia eats the people! Of course all of the Leggo pieces are too large to be choking hazzards!

Chasen was off this week from school, but I had to work. Chasen got to have a lot of Daddy time because of this! They had a lot of boy fun, and I heard something about a geiko being on my pillow so you know they had a blast! Chasen is really getting to be at a fun age where he's listening a bit more and full of questions. He's hit the "Why" stage, always asking why why why? Though he doesn't seem to understand the "Because I said so" response! I can't believe I'm actually giving that as an answer, I use to hate that as a kid! He also has a comeback to when we say no, he says "I say yes!". When we tell him he doesn't count he says "I count! 1,2,3,4.....". Smart kid!

Sophia is going through some phase where she's waking up every two hours! She was sick for the first time this week, a fever and overall not feeling well. Chasen had the same thing the week before. She didn't sleep well when she was sick but not that she's better she is still waking up during the night. I'm hoping it's a teething thing which tells me at least she might resort back to her usual sleeping patterns soon. Chasen got his first tooth around this time so I assume hers is on it's way! I look forward to seeing her little tooth but at the same time I know I will miss her cute toothless smile!
