Happy Birthday Sophia!

Sophia is one month old now! How time flies when you don't get eight hours of sleep! She had her one month doctor's appointment, and we are very pleased with her new doctor! We are seeing Dr. Jattan of Conyers Pediatrics and are very happy with her and the practice. Sophia measured 8 lbs 3 oz (25%)and 19 1/4 inches (3%). Pretty good gains for only a month! Of course having a baby 3%-tile in height is opposite of what Chasen was, he's been tall for all of his measurements! But I'm not coming to any conclusions yet. I have to announce that we are starting to see which way her eyes are turning......"to the dark side, Luke"! It looks like we are going to have a brown-eyed girl! I think they are starting to look like Justin's brown eyes, which have a tint of orange to them. Sophia also had her first photo shoot with our friend Robin. Robin took Chasen's baby pictures as well as some other photos through the years. We are looking forward to seeing how those turned out. Justin is busy working on our new webpage. We hope to have it up and running in a week or so. It's going to be awesome! So, if you just come to this blog through a blog link, try www.justinandjacinda.com and you will soon see our new site!

A day in the life of Sophia

Thought I should post more pictures of Sophia and what she's up to! This is it! She sleeps, she wakes up, and sleeps again! I figured taking pictures of her on the changing table was a bit much, but she spends a lot of time there too! I am amazed how many diapers one little bum can go thru in a day!
Nothing else new going on at home. School is in full swing for both Justin and I. I have to go to classes on Monday nights and he is going to go to class on Wednesday nights. Plus we both have online classes to keep up busy. This is my last semester, and I should be finishing up my teaching portfolio by the middle of February. Basically, I have to write about four papers for that on my understanding of various standards. Even though I have all this time off, I don't feel like I have time to get started on it! I also have a science exam in March to take in order to be certified in middle grades science. I'm pretty nervous about that! I hate to say it, but I don't feel like GSU prepared me for this exam!

Yellow River Game Ranch

On MLK, Justin and I took the kids....hey, I said kids to the Yellow River Game Ranch in Snellville. Admission was only $1 and we had been wanting to take Chasen there ever since he visited the petting farm last summer. He fed all sorts of animals-deer, birds of all kinds, sheep, goats, and donkeys. He even fed a bear!!! (Through a tube of course!) He was so funny feeding the goats and sheep, he would feed them one kernel of corn at a time! Look closely at the pictures I've posted-notice anything interesting about what Chasen is doing?!?
Sophia enjoyed the petting zoo as well, she slept most of the time!

3 weeks old!

Now with two kids, I guess I have to post twice as many pictures!
Sophia is 3 weeks old today! We are getting more adjusted to her being home with us. She is actually a very good baby, very chill-axin as Silka would say! She only cries at night when we are trying to get her to bed for some reason, but we are going to work out a new strategy for that tonight! She has been sleeping with us every night because we can't get her to stop crying at bedtime, but we are going to work on getting her to bed BEFORE we go to bed. Maybe that will help! Sophia only wakes up once during the night and then in the morning. It seems that right after we get her back to sleep in the morning Chasen wakes up and jumps in bed with us! We have been putting Chasen to bed earlier too. It's a little bit of a struggle, surely if we have aunties over, he wants to stay up and play. But we need some adult time and he needs more sleep!
As you can see in the pictures, Georgia had a giant snowstorm! (Insert sarcastic smile) We had to shovel our way out the front door and put chains on all the cars! The stores were barren of bread and milk and schools were canceled (that part is true)! So of course, Chasen wants to go out and be a fireman in the snow....hmmmmm.
We also took Chasen to Woody's Jump and Play. Justin and I both got in the bounce houses and played with him, he thought it was great! I regretted it right afterwards! I think it set back my recovery a few days! Just when I thought I was getting better...too much confidence! Justin was sore too from trying to do Olympic style flips himself!
Chasen is still a wild-child. He has NOT calmed down with the baby! But he has laid off wanting to hold her all the time. He rarely wants to hold her, for the most part he ignores her! He doesn't like me holding her though, he wants all of mommy's attention on him! He says "Mommy no hold baby, Daddy hold baby!" But he does let us know if she is crying-as if we can't hear it ourselves! It's so cute, sometimes he starts shouting "Quiet Baby!" or "Shhhh Baby!". I'm not sure who makes more noise-Chasen or Sophia!

Big Brother

Tomorrow is Sophia's one week birthday! We will celebrate by taking her to the doctor! Yippee! Things have been difficult around the house this week. I have to say, the hardest part about having a newborn in the house is the 3 year old in the house! Chasen is just so excited about the baby but he doesn't know how to act. He wants to wake her up when she's sleeping and hold her when she's feeding. Of course he doesn't have a lot of patience so when we tell him he has to wait he starts crying or tries to take her out of our arms. When he does hold her, he wants to touch all over her face, which wouldn't be a big deal if he didn't try to open her sleeping eyes! He also doesn't understand that he can't "wrestle" with the baby. I feel really bad for him, since it seems that all we do is tell him what NOT to do to the baby. I hope he picks up on these things soon. I know he loves her and doesn't want to hurt her, but he's all boy-rough and tough! I can tell Sophia is going to be a strong girl having an older brother like Chasen!
