Pecan Love

Well, it's now officially official! We went to the doctor today for our 12 WEEK appointment and our pecan is doing well! It was a little scary...when the doctor used the Doppler to find a heartbeat she couldn't find one. She tried and tried, but no heartbeat to be heard! Of course, I am one of those paranoid pregnant people, so I'm thinking "Oh great, I should have listened to my mother and not told anyone yet!". So we had to get an ultrasound. And was that baby kicking! The fine gourmet chocolate I had tasted before the appointment really had Pecan moving! It was pretty neat, the last ultrasound showed what looked like arm "buds". Now it looked like Pecan had full arms and legs moving around. (Sorry no picture, to the untrained eye it looks like black and white fuzz.)So, we are very happy with such good news. I measured 12 weeks perfectly, which is good to hear as well. Justin is making me a grilled buffalo chicken salad to celebrate. One of my favorite meals. Even when I was feeling the worst morning sickness, I could still eat buffalo sauce! Speaking of morning sickness, I am a little better than I was last month, but not in the clear yet. I remember the nauseousness went on into the second semester with Chasen, so I have to hold out a little longer.

Our Day in Downtown

On Friday, we took Chasen to the Children's Museum in downtown Atlanta. They had a new exhibit about trees and he was able to climb and slide in a really fun tree house. It's interesting, the last two time that we have been there, his favorite exhibit is a network of balls, pulleys, and wheels. He finds some wrench or wheel to turn and will do that job for 20 minutes or so. We couldn't get him to do anything else once he started turning that wheel!
Then, we walked up to the CNN center and had lunch in the food court there. Following lunch, we took him to Centennial Olympic Park to play in the spraying rings of water. He was shy at first, but then started to have a blast! I'm surprised we were able to get him to leave. I got soaked, and of course Chasen was the only one who was prepared with a change of clothes. He really had a good time downtown. Because as everyone knows, it's all about Chasen!

Future 4-H Chicken Judger?

We took Chasen today to the Country Critters Corral, a farm/petting zoo I-20 East in Newborn. We had no idea he would love chickens so much! They had all sorts of farm animals besides chickens-a pig, sheep, goats, rabbits, miniature horses, turkeys and ducks. But he was crazy about the chickens. He loved to catch them and hold them, with no fear! Another family was there at the same time and the mother was afraid of the chickens. Seems pretty silly when a 2 year old can pick them up with ease! It reminded me of my chicken-judging days in 4-H. But I think I would have been a better judger if we had these kind of chickens-small and use to people picking them up! I remember running around a farm trying to pick up huge chickens who really didn't want to be messed with! Chasen was so good at catching these chickens, and so proud of himself. He would clap and cheer every time he got one and released it. He also liked to do the chicken dance for them! The chicken's didn't buy it though, they knew he wasn't a fellow clucker! Justin wants to get chickens now and have our own little farm. What do you think the neighbors would think about that?

We're having a Pecan!

Even though it's a little early, Justin, Chasen and I would like to announce that we are adding a new nut to our family! Meet our little Pecan-Pistachio's future brother/sister. Wednesday will mark me as 11 weeks pregnant, but everything seems to be going well so we are starting to tell family and friends. We are excited, though we realize now we have lots to do by January 6th!

Other than that, the summer has started here and things are going well. I go down to GSU two days a week to take a Geology course. It's a little tough, but interesting. Learning about rocks right now, but I'm sure it will get more exciting once we start talking about volcanoes and such. Justin is off of school until July and then he starts back at Dekalb Tech.

We have been potty training Chasen for the past two weeks. It started off really well. He told us when he had to go and didn't have any accidents in his pull-ups. He had accidents in underwear for some reason, but pull-ups were good. Then, on Friday when Justin and I went to the doctor to get this great photo of our Pecan, he unlearned everything! He started going in his pull-up and not wanting to go to the potty. So, we started over again this weekend and I'm trying to get him back into it. I guess the excitement died down and he figured it was too much work! I hope to have him 100% by the end of summer. I would love to not have to buy any diapers for a while!
